Costa Rica Expat City Guide

Nosara, Costa Rica

Nosara, Costa Rica – an area with few paved roads – is one of the oldest expat communities in the country, as well as a thriving fishing and agricultural area. The family-friendly community is deeply committed to the land and sea, with a strong focus on ecotourism, sustainability, and recycling. Along with neighbors Santa Teresa and Sámara, Nosara is a world-renowned surfing destination, thanks in large part to Playa Guiones, which has some of the most consistent waves in the world and over 330 rideable days per year. It’s also a mecca for yoga in Costa Rica, with several renowned yoga schools calling the area home. One notable feature of Nosara is the lack of development directly on the beach, due to much of it being part of the Ostional Wildlife Refuge. It’s worth noting that the Nosara Peninsula is one of the world’s Blue Zones, where life expectancy is at its highest, making it a unique and fascinating place to visit.
